"IS 'CENSORSHIP' THE ANSWER?"
Q. Should Christians pursue "censorship" in entertainment, on cable, in media, or in hip hop music, etc.?
A. ALL EXPRESSION is a revelation of the heart's experience and life position. "Living from the place your heart presently "is", is the key to "being authentic"! So, GOD doesn't censor and silence the noise or profanity of culture and society; and neither should we! EVERY EXPRESSION HAS VALUE; even if the context is negative, riske', or wrong.
- In order for "God's Truth" to have a landing place in the heart, every other opposing force or voice must be EXPOSED!
THE SCRIPTURE SAYS:
"And he called the people to him again and said to them, "Hear me, all of you, and understand: There is nothing outside a person that by going into him can defile him, but the things that come out of a person are what defile him." (Mark 7:14-15 and Matthew 15:10-11, ESV)
A "Postmodern", "Post-Christian" and "Post-Truth" society is teetering and vacillating between lawlessness and libel in EVERY COMMUNICATION, no matter "how" damaging and dark the statements may be!
REMEMBER THIS...
"The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil. I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned."" (Matthew 12:35-37, ESV)
Q. - If we're NOT going to censor communication, what's the other option for Christians?
A. - BE SELECTIVE and BE INTENTIONAL about what we allow "in", what we meditate "on", and what we pledge allegiance "to", because we MUST "guard our hearts"!
HOW DO WE PROTECT OUR HEARTS?
"My son, be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Let them not escape from your sight; keep them within your heart. For they are life to those who find them, and healing to all their flesh. Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life. Put away from you crooked speech, and put devious talk far from you. Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you. Ponder the path of your feet; then all your ways will be sure. Do not swerve to the right or to the left; turn your foot away from evil." (Proverbs 4:20-27, ESV)
"For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account." (Hebrews 4:12-13 ESV)
CIRCUMCISING and SETTING THE HEART..
These passages above CLEARLY articulates the importance of first CIRCUMCISING your heart -- and then SETTING your mind on the WORD of GOD, so it "works" from the inside-out; and, finally, the darkness supernaturally vanishes away from our thinking!
Our U.S. Constitution GUARANTEES every citizen the right to exercise "free speech", but the "unhealthy" censoring mechanisms in our world, like: "media spinning", libel, character assassination, relativism, situational ethics, and "post-truth" are doing as much DAMAGE as "silencing the voice" of others!
Just MAYBE, our politics and our philosophies are really worth debating about... But, is it worth GOD's JUDGMENT and the broken relationships full of hurt, malice and pain?
CENSORSHIP is obviously NOT "the answer"; but WHAT "is"?
